We bought a pair of California lilacs from the San Francisco botanical garden plant sale last April, originally intended for our dragon pots, but when they started to struggle a little we thought that we would just stick them in the ground and hope for the best. I'll be honest, things were looking pretty dire, but then one of them seemed to turn the corner late last July. Green shoots!
And now, 10 months later, the plant is over 8 feet tall, and doesn't seem to be showing any signs of slowing down!
There must be something in the soil, because things are pretty happy along the entire stretch. Another before & after set:
