Spring has sprung

We bought a pair of California lilacs from the San Francisco botanical garden plant sale last April, originally intended for our dragon pots, but when they started to struggle a little we thought that we would just stick them in the ground and hope for the best.  I'll be honest, things were looking pretty dire, but then one of them seemed to turn the corner late last July.  Green shoots!

And now, 10 months later, the plant is over 8 feet tall, and doesn't seem to be showing any signs of slowing down!

There must be something in the soil, because things are pretty happy along the entire stretch.  Another before & after set:

Sighted at Ruby St

We've really been making the most of our yardway out back.  Container gardening is in full swing with planters overflowing with tomato plants and a lemon tree that is too productive for its own good.  BBQ season is just getting underway and the dart board is being conditioned for the pro-am competitive backyard circuit.  We are all for getting creative with this space and not easily shocked, however this was a new one that we hadn't even thought about...!
